Vampire Mountain by Darren Shan

Book 4 (Book 1: Cirque du Freak, Book 2: The Vampire’s Assistant, Book 3: Tunnels of Blood)

Novel Summation:
Darren Shan and Mr. Crepsley embark on a dangerous trek to the very heart of the vampire world. But they face more than the cold on Vampire Mountain-the vampaneze have been there before them. Will a meeting with the Vampire Princes restore Darren’s human side or turn him further toward darkness?

My Thoughts:

I enjoyed this book a lot. In this book we learn a lot more about the vampire society. We learn about and how the vampires are governed. There are Vampire Princes who rule the clan and then there are Vampire Generals. On the journey to Vampire Mountain we learn about the previous war between the Vampires and the Vampaneze. Also, a startling discovery is made about the Little People in particular the Little Person known previously as Lefty. At Vampire Mountain we learn about a lot of customs the vampires undergo and we meet many vampires. Some characters we are introduces to are Kurda Smahlt who desires to unite the Vampires and Vampaneze once more. We are introduced to Vanez Blane the one-eyed games master who also teaches vampires to fight. Another vampire is Arra Sails, one of the few female vampires. Her respect is hard-earned. Another vampire is Seba. Seba was Mr. Crepsley’s tutor. We are introduced to 3 Vampire Princes. Arrow, Paris, and Mika. Each Prince has their own unique story. In interesting prophecy made by Mr. Tiny is brought into focus and could mean the death of the Vampire race and the hands of the Vampaneze. Returning to the story is Gavner Purl and Evra makes a really brief appearance. Since Darren doesn’t age at the normal rate, Evra has become a lot older and their friendship is strained. Darren continues to mature and grow. The book ends with Darren accepting to do the trials of initiation. It can only get more interesting. I would recommend this book to those who have enjoyed the previous books.

Future Books:

The next books in the series are Trials of Death, The Vampire Prince, Hunters of the Dusk, Allies of the Night, Killers of the Dawn, The Lake of Souls, Lord of the Shadows, and Sons of Destiny.
