Book 7 (Book 1: Cirque du Freak, Book 2: The Vampire’s Assistant, Book 3: Tunnels of Blood, Book 4: Vampire Mountain, Book 5: Trials of Death, Book 6: The Vampire Prince)
Darren Shan, the Vampire Prince, leaves Vampire Mountain on a life or death mission. As part of an elite force, Darren scours the world in search of the Vampaneze Lord. But the road ahead is long and dangerous and lined with bodies of the damned.
This was a really good book. The book begins 6 years after Darren was made a prince. Darren has transitioned into the role really well. The War of the Scars (war between Vampires and Vampaneze) has already begun. In this book Mr. Tiny makes a visit to announce that the only way to defeat the Vampaneze Lord is through 3 vampires who will come across the Vampaneze Lord 3 times. 3 hunters and 3 opportunities to end the war. This may be a spoiler but I don’t think it is because it is kind of obvious who two of those hunters are. Darren and Mr.Crepsley are 2 of the 3 hunters chosen. They are accompanied by Harkat (not one of the 3) and they leave Vampire Mountain to search for the Vampaneze Lord. Along the way the meet the third hunter. In this book we also get a reunion with the Cirque du Freak. It is amazing how much has changed there particularly with Evra. Who has grown up quite a bit since Darren last saw him. Two new characters we are introduced to is Evanna. She is a witch of sorts with a very interesting personality. Another character we are introduced to is Vancha March who is the 5th vampire prince. He is a very interesting and unique individual. More details about the Vampaneze Lord is given. The book is mainly an adventure and an intro to the start of the pursuit of the Vampaneze Lord. I would recommend this book if you have enjoyed the others.
The next books in the series are Allies of the Night, Killers of the Dawn, The Lake of Souls, Lord of the Shadows, and Sons of Destiny
